AI2 AlphaBot 2 Debuts in Lan Kwai Fong

On Sunday 31 August 2026, Shenzhen's AI2 Robotics put its wheeled dual-arm AlphaBot 2 on a bar floor in Hong Kong's Lan Kwai Fong. China Daily Hong Kong filed photos from California Tower that evening with Lan Kwai Fong Group chairman Allan Zeman tasting a drink the machine poured. 21st Century Business Herald, Unwire.hk, and StartupBusiness carried Monday 1 September write-ups that frame the same install as the company's first open-scene service shift outside mainland China. That is a hospitality placement with a pour-and-chat brief. It is not a factory cell, and it is not the Galbot convenience-store launch that opened three Hong Kong shops the same week.

Keep the two Hong Kong stories apart. Galbot's Hung Hom, Wan Chai, and Kai Tak shops are wheeled retail pickers under a different brand, already covered on this desk. AI2's AlphaBot 2 is a different machine, from a different company, standing behind a nightlife bar. Same city, same week, different joints and a different duty cycle.

Ceremony first. Paid shifts later.

Company-side copy says the robot already cleared hardware export, customs, Hong Kong beverage-sale licensing, and a paid-service loop, and calls the bar the first real open-scene service robot in the city. Zeman's Unwire remarks are more careful. He said the unit would stay permanently in Lan Kwai Fong, that guests will order on a tablet, and that formal service starts about two weeks after the 31 August photo call. Those two clocks do not match. A ribbon-cut pour for a finance-press day is not the same as a Friday-night queue with wet floors, spilled ice, and a drunk shoulder into the chassis. Treat the Sunday event as an install and press demo until someone publishes a shift log.

The brief itself is narrow, which is the interesting part. Tablet order. Fetch glass. Mix. Talk in Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and other languages. AI2 says AlphaBot 2 can drive standard bar and beverage gear without a scripted kiosk shell. That is a claim about tool use and scene switching, not a published wrist-force curve. FIRGELLI will not upgrade a cocktail photo into proof that the same stack can run a dinner rush or a hotel lobby without a human closer.

Catalog numbers. Not the bar datasheet.

AI2's own AlphaBot 2 hardware docs list a wheeled dual-arm body at 1,800 mm and 135 kg, 22 degrees of freedom excluding end effectors, 7-DoF arms, 723 mm reach without the tool, and a 4 kg rated payload per arm. Compute is an NVIDIA Orin AGX 64G. The pack is listed as 48 V 30 Ah with a 4 to 6 hour runtime claim. Drive is two-wheel differential. Head, chest, and back carry RealSense D435 cameras; each wrist gets a D405 for close work. Those are catalog rows for the production AlphaBot 2. They are not printed on the Lan Kwai Fong press notes as the bar unit's measured numbers, and FIRGELLI will not invent a different sheet for the nightclub SKU.

Read the payload against the job. Four kilograms per arm is enough for a shaker and a bottle if the pour stays near the body. It is not a tray of six pints at full reach in a crowd. Repeat positioning on the arm sheet is ±0.1 mm in a test frame. A wet bar top under moving feet is not that frame. Slope limit on the sheet is about 5 degrees. Lan Kwai Fong's streets and multi-level venues are not a flat lab. Wheels buy you hours and cost you stairs. Anyone comparing this to a biped station guide should keep that trade on the table.

Marketing write-ups layer on NeuroVLA / “brain-inspired” stack claims: cortex-cerebellum-spinal metaphors, a 75 percent jitter cut, collision reflexes in about 20 milliseconds. Those numbers do not appear on the public hardware table FIRGELLI is using. Until AI2 publishes a measurement method, treat them as brochure language. Useful questions for a bar engineer stay simpler. Continuous wrist torque while shaking. Stop distance when a patron steps sideways. Pack temperature after two hours under disco lighting. Slip recovery when the floor is wet. Grip reliability on condensation-slick glass. None of that is in Monday's wires.

What this install can actually prove.

A permanent Lan Kwai Fong residency with tablet ordering can answer real questions once formal service starts. Do guests finish the order on the tablet or abandon it. Does speech hold up over bass and street noise. Does the pour stay inside the glass when someone bumps the counter. Does the machine need a human reset every hour. Those are acceptance metrics for hospitality. They are not proof that AlphaBot 2 replaces a bartender on a Saturday peak, and they are not a factory takt-time claim.

Background only: AI2 was founded in 2023 by Guo Yandong; mainland coverage ties the company to a June 2026 round that put valuation talk above RMB 20 billion, and to a panel-maker HKC deal described as roughly 1,000 robots over three years. Unwire also notes IPO chatter. Funding and purchase-order headlines do not move a cocktail shaker. The hardware still has to hold a glass.

If you are stacking this against Singapore's Olly walking trial, Osaka's Hinata counter, or Galbot's Hong Kong shops, hold all four to the same bar. A named duty. A published force or payload. A measured failure mode. Sunday put a wheeled dual-arm pourer into Lan Kwai Fong. The joints and the wet-floor case still are not on the sheet.
