What I do not have, and will not invent: a current official English height, mass, battery, or payload table for the U1 that walked at WRC. What it is
U1 is UBTECH’s attempt to leave the factory and sell a person-shaped companion. The launch theme was “Endless Love.” The product family is UWORLD: Lite (semi-torso), Pro (full-body), Ultra (high-dynamic full-body). The unit in the official press photo — platinum hair, white shirt, wide trousers, mid-stride on a blue LED stage — is a full-body show robot, not the Lite torso.
At WRC, AP’s Eduardo Castillo quoted Jiao on facial expressions, a rotating neck, and hand motion, and on selling to individuals at 168,000 yuan. Chinese trade copy that week (Caijing, ToolAI) repeated Resonance-LM and the “first mass-producible ultrabionic humanoid” line. I am treating those as company/trade claims, not as a teardown.
Who makes it
UBTECH Robotics, Shenzhen, HKEX-listed. The same company already ships Walker S into industrial pilots and showed Walker C1, Cruzr Y1, and Cruzr S2 in the same Beijing halls. That matters because UBTECH’s humanoid skill is real; it does not automatically transfer from a sheet-metal cell to a living room.

What it can actually do
Publicly: walk a runway, turn a neck, move a hand, put on a face, and hold a conversation that UBTECH says is emotion-aware. That is a show. It is also more than a PowerPoint. It is not folding laundry, not watching a child, and not a nurse. Anyone selling U1 as eldercare hardware without a named care-home deployment and a duty-cycle number is selling the launch video.
Flaws
The honest engineering problem is the missing card. A 168,000-yuan biped with no published mass is a safety unknown — you cannot plan a fall, a stair, or a small apartment until you know whether this thing is 40 kg or 80. The facial stack is the product; it is also the privacy surface. UBTECH’s launch copy talks about local-first data and a three-layer privacy architecture. That is a claim. Ask for the data-residency document before you put a camera-faced robot in a bedroom.
Price conflict is the other flaw. If Jiao’s 168,000 yuan is a Pro-class unit and Lite is still 119,800, say so on the quote. If Ultra is still near a million yuan, do not let a salesperson hide that SKU behind the AP number.
Real-world usefulness
Useful today as a paid companion demo, a hospitality greeter with a human face, or a research body for expression work. Not useful as a chore robot, and not a substitute for Walker S on a line.
